Flash Gordon sketch

Flash Gordon sketch

Flash Gordon sketchI’ve been listening to Queen a lot lately in my car and the Flash Gordon theme keeps reminding me how awesome Queen is and how awesome the Flash Gordon movie is. Since I’ve been drawing a lot lately, I decided to do a sketch of the all-American space hero.

This drawing was done using colored pencils and crayons. I couldn’t find a pencil sharpener, so I eventually had to switch to Crayolas. SHARPENER IN THE BACK OF THE CRAYON BOX! Pure genius.

Enjoy the sketch and remember to “DIVE!”

Mermaid on the rocks

Mermaid on the rocks

Mermaid for BoogsThis weekend I finally decided it was time to draw again. It’s been a really, really long time. My closet is full of art supplies I haven’t used since college! So I packed up my colored pencils and my sketchbook and made it a goal to draw something that day. My only restriction was to draw something with a lot of color because my color palette lately has been a bit desaturated.

This particular drawing took a long time because I pressed really hard on the colored pencils to get a crayon effect. Crayons have a great look, but they snap often and that’s no good.

I’ll probably do a more detailed illustration based on this sketch.

Rebuilt the desktop PC

It doesn’t take much to justify upgrading my machine. I ask myself this questions: “Is the speed of this machine costing me time/money?” If the answer is yes then it’s time for an upgrade. I am a huge fan of AMD and decided to stick with them. I went from a micro-ATX motherboard to a full-sized MSI motherboard. I also finally had to let my old DVD burner ride off into the sunset because it mechanically failed. LG to the rescue with their totally affordable $19.99 Super-Multi drive!

The biggest upgrades were the Corsair 128GB solid-state drive (SSD) and the AMD Phenom II 1100T Black Edition Six Core Processor. The CPU started out at 3.3GHz, but I overclocked it to 3.75GHz! I also threw in 8GB of DDR3 memory because it’s so cheap these days. (The reason I upgraded the PC in the first place was the fact that DDR2 memory is SO EXPENSIVE compared to DDR3 memory.)
