Andrea has done shoots with me in the past and really helped pull this shoot together. I’ve been in between several projects, so a big high five for her efforts in getting dancers committed. To the photo project, not committed as in institutionalized. As a former dance team member, she was able to ask some of the current members to head over to First Position School of Dance in Milltown, NJ.
My goal with this series of photos was to get down to basics. Strip away all the color and go for striking, heavy dark shadows. I did a few color shots, but the main focus was boiling it down to b&w.
It’s extremely important for me to ask each dancer questions before composing their shot, especially if it’s multi-flash and they will be moving across the frame. Know how to count. The dancers appreciate it and it will make getting THE shot a lot easier.
