ZOMBIE! Grab a Bat and Live To See Another Halloween!

ZOMBIE! Grab a Bat and Live To See Another Halloween!

Crystina Herrera you have outdone yourself. You will feast your eyes upon her gore-ious work upon scrolling down.

Everyone brought their acting chops and got down and dirty to shoot the annual That Werks Halloween Theme. I can safely say this is also one of the smelliest shoots we have ever done. God only knows what disgusting sludge was leaking in/out of the cemetery.

All of the broad daylight scenes were shot without fancy lighting. Once the sun dropped below the horizon I used my trusty Yongnuo 560 IV speedlites to set the mood.

Some of my favorite shots are the simplest. The silhouette head smash being one of them. Delightfully violent.

What Makes a Great Headshot? A Trip to NBC for Starters.

What Makes a Great Headshot? A Trip to NBC for Starters.

Get ready for a bunch of cool people I met at NBC. A great headshot should be equal parts technical and emotional. Without either aspect you have a lackluster image. A headshot needs to have a particular vibe to it and has to convey warmth and personality.

Coming fresh off the heels of “Back to the Future Day” is a blog post about the company that released that very same trilogy! While the photos did not include a DeLorean or Marty interrupting the Enchantment Under The Sea Dance with a guitar solo, they do include very photogenic and enthusiastic individuals. I suppose working for the biggest media company in the world gives people confidence in front of a camera.

My assistant and I arrived to their complex and set up shop in a conference room. We gave ourselves plenty of time to position gear that worked within the space and rattled off some test shots. Test shots cannot be understated. The last thing you want to do is stand there adjusting equipment in front of the client. Sometimes it needs to happen, but 99% of the time you should be ready to rock out of the gate.

Camera: Canon 6D
Lighting: 2 Einstein 640 strobes with PLM modifers and 2 Yongnuo 560 IV speedlites w/ reflector placed on table.

The Smith’s 1955 Chevrolet

The Smith’s 1955 Chevrolet

The Smiths invited me to their home to photograph Mr. Smith’s classic 1955 Chevrolet. He has owned it for 40 years and obviously takes exceptional care of it. Of course you can plan a shoot right down to the minute, but mother nature doesn’t adhere to human planning. Rain began coming down about halfway through. I worked deliberately and quickly to make sure we nailed at least a few different setups before the baby had to go back in the garage.

From a gear standpoint I shot with very little. Mainly with a Canon 6D and a Yongnuo 560IV Speedlite sometimes with an umbrella or a stackable grid. Lenses were a mix between the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 and Canon EF 28mm f/1.8.

Capezio NYCDA Shoot on Times Square Rooftop

Capezio NYCDA Shoot on Times Square Rooftop

Any day I get to photograph the people and places of New York is a good day. Capezio asked me to photograph four talented dancers that were at the flagship store in Times Square. Initially we were going to shoot in front of a seamless backdrop, but decided to liven things up by taking to the roof. It was a bright sunny day and the kids were excited to showcase their dances. These are just a few of my favorite shots!

Thank you to Capezio and New York City Dance Alliance and, of course, the dancers Brady Farrar, Emma York, Jasmin Cruz and Laci Justice.

On The Beach with Crystal

On The Beach with Crystal

This was my second time shooting with Crystal in Asbury Park. For the first time, check out this blog post. It was one of those days where black and white was on my mind, so this is heavier on black and white photographs than color ones.

We did some high-flying maneuvers off a park bench, played with shadows and took advantage of a day free of Atlantic Ocean swimmers and fishermen. I think our next shoot together will take place in outer space. If you don’t have the energy to keep up with her, you will fail as her photographer.
