Cleri Models – Kristina A. at Art Factory Studios with That Werks Photography

Below are highlights from photographing Kristina for Cleri Models. We used a Savage backdrop for the yellow, but the rest of the shoot was done elsewhere within Art Factory Studios. One of my favorite lenses to use during these shoots is the Sony 85mm f/1.8. It’s small, lightweight and has a customizable button on the barrel. I use it for eye focus which is a huge feature on the Sony cameras.

Thanks again for coming up to the studio to shoot with us!

Maddy Hooker Modeling Session @ Art Factory Studios

This was another terrific session with Maddy and this time we did it at my studio space in north NJ at Art Factory Studios. I got to play around with my 15mm lens which I normally never use for portrait work, but I wanted to accentuate leg length and have a bit more coming at the viewer. We played with colorful palettes and a strong sun that gave us nice contrast for each setup.

Tate McRae “Pure Knit” Capezio photo and video shoot

Tate McRae “Pure Knit” FINAL CUT from That Werks on Vimeo.

There was one day I got to work with an amazing crew and talented dancer in a blowout extravaganza not only filming a dance video, but also doing a photo shoot on that very same day. We filmed the video with playback of Tate McRae’s original song “Hung Up On You” and choreography she came up with from scratch.

You can purchase the shoes featured in this content through the following link to Capezio’s web site.

McKenna for Cleri Models Photographed at Art Factory Studios

This shoot is from right around the time I started doing headshots in a new way. I typically stay away from flat lighting, but it works well for the modeling portfolio headshots because it shows off features without heavy shadowing and it minimizes skin irregularities. I particularly love the look with the red dress and red lipstick. Raen (hair/makeup) always does a great job of going over the wardrobe choices with me so that we’re on the same page.

McKenna did a great job, nailed all her looks and we made use of some spaces at the studio that hadn’t been used before.

Brianne for Cleri Models

Here’s a fun shoot I did with Brianne from Cleri Models in the studio. I’ve been digging the Savage backdrops lately. They really are perfect for giving me the pop needed for modeling work. I like a nice crisp directional light, drop shadow and a vibrant backdrop and their seamless paper fits the bill for that aesthetic. We also employed a little bit of haze for the environment.

Isabella for Cleri Models

We got some amazing natural light for quite a few of the images captured of Isabella for Cleri Models. Pockets of super golden sunlight poured in quite a few of the windows and Isabella managed to keep her eyes open without fail even with such bright conditions. Every time I have a session with someone I am looking to deliver new to satisfy the client and further my own style. There is always a new spin on an old technique to be found.

Getting Downright Experimental with Professional Dancers

The night I photographed Andrea, Emily and Tara was a big ole experiment. There is no creative growth in my book without throwing everything out the window for something new. I shot everything using a lens I would normally never use being so close to the subject. I used off camera flash in a way I never did before. My favorite images taken that evening were shot against a dark background. If I had to describe the look it would be a fluid series of motions captured in one single exposure. This gives the performer something they probably don’t have in their portfolio of images. Something different that stands out and gets a “WOW!”

Style is always evolving. Never be completely content in the work you are creating because there’s always another way to push or pull the methods. Using this method of photographing dancers should encourage anyone that performs dance, or knows someone that dances, to look into booking a shoot with me. We will create amazing images together using this technique.

High Fashion With Alex in Asbury Park for Cleri Models

Alex made a long trek from Pittsburgh, PA for a fashion shoot down the New Jersey shore at Salt Studios. That is quite a hike so the fact that someone would drive that far to work with me is a great honor. Building up the modeling portfolio is something I’ve become quite good at doing. Especially for those that jive with my sense of humor.

I used a combination of simple strobes, a Paul C. Buff ring flash and scrims to get many different looks. The key to doing a model test is showing them in many different settings and lighting setups to give a client a good sense of what their model is capable of.

Special thanks to Cleri Models for the shoot, Wanida Chopra for doing hair/makeup and, of course, Lew Monty for assisting.

Christmas Time With Carly in Somerville, NJ

Carly showed up bundled and ready to run around Somerville for some fun Christmas lifestyle shots. (I had to resist the temptation of doing the entire shoot inside YESTERcades or Sushi Palace. I have no idea why I decided to shoot near these temptations!) Locations included Division Street and the Somerville train station.
