A LITTLE ABOUT MYSELF

I love creating new things and breathe life into each project I work on. I strive to please my clients and myself. Helping me along the way have been influences ranging from Steven Spielberg to Annie Leibovitz. It goes without saying that numerous individuals have encouraged me along the way.

Since graduating from The Art Institute of York Pennsylvania (formerly Bradley Academy) in 2001, I’ve worked with clients such as The Opie & Anthony Show, Brother, Blair’s Sauces & Snacks, UL, ChocoVision and Prudential to name a few.

Amazing Experience

“My husband and I had an outdoor wedding by the lakeside Sept of 2013. When the search for a photographer began I knew I didn’t have to go very far. I’ve known Chris since college and previewed some of his work and knew that he was the perfect choice. He came to our home months before the wedding and did an engagement shoot and his ideas were out of this world! When the wedding rolled around I couldn’t wait for the photography to begin , from the time he spent with me and my bridesmaids getting ready, the ceremony and reception , every moment was captured beautifully. I can look at each photograph and relive everything I felt at that exact moment. He was the best choice for the best day of our lives!”

Best Choice Ever

“My husband and I had a small wedding in June 2012 at a bed and breakfast in Flemington, New Jersey. When looking for a photographer, we knew we needed someone special to capture the intimacy of the event and charm of the location. Choosing That Werks for our wedding photography was the best decision we made! We were initially drawn to Chris by his amazing portfolio which, along with weddings, also showcased his versatility in beautifully capturing a variety of subjects. After a wonderful meeting, we knew Chris’s creativity and exceptional skills would make him the perfect photographer for our wedding and we could not be happier with his work. He was super attentive and flexible with all our requests and perfectly balanced what we wanted along with his amazing expertise. We highly, highly recommend That Werks for wedding photography as well as for capturing all of life’s special events! “

A True Artist

“If you want photographs of your wedding that are each like a little piece of art, then Chris Sztybel is your guy. He really approaches every photograph with the sensibility of an artist, paying attention to color and background and catching unexpected moments. He took some amazingly beautiful photos of our day, which included a photo shoot of just the two of us in a NYC park followed by a trip to City Hall! Probably the best thing about him is that he couldn’t be a more pleasant person to spend the day with, which makes a huge difference when you’re in the midst of really special, intimate moments. ”

Kelly and Rick Beach Engagement Session at Sandy Hook, New Jersey

These two are a total joy to photograph. Kelly and Rick met up with me at Sandy Hook near the Atlantic Highlands for a ridiculously nice sunset engagement session. We shot up and down the bay until the sun dipped below the horizon. This was another day that reminded me of how cool it is to do what I do. The satisfaction of this kind of “work” trumps all else. It was also very nice to see Sandy Hook bounced back strong after Hurricane/Superstorm/Earth Destroyer Sandy rolled through almost one year ago. Freshly paved roads and mostly everything looking as I remembered it prior to the storm.

Family Portrait Session at Princeton Battlefield in Princeton, New Jersey

Princeton Battlefield is yet another place in New Jersey that I had never been to until this session came along. Boogs and I arrived a bit early to explore the grounds and it’s much more than just a big field. The Clark House is there and it’s an excellent backdrop for portraits and landscapes. Another beautiful spring day filled with funny moments and photos to last a lifetime. Thank you to Kelly, Rick and Sage for marching up and down the battlefield to make these photos happen!

Engagement/Move-in Session with Vanessa & Conrad

I have a hard time working with boring people. Fortunately, fun people find me or I find them. Vanessa and Conrad recently bought a house together and I wanted to photograph them in it before everything looked brand new. They had been restoring the house like champs, so there were only a few areas unfinished enough for photographs depicting a work-in-progress. One idea I really wanted to capture was the meal every new homeowner experiences. Chinese food on a cardboard table. It’s a simple meal and it is a great symbol of the beginning of a life together. Making due with what you have. The symbolism goes on and on.

Valentine’s Day Shoot for Bay’s Style Diary

Bayann and I connected for a photo shoot celebrating the one year anniversary of Bay’s Style Diary & Boutique. It also happens to be Valentine’s Day and she brought balloons and other lovely trinkets to use as props. Our shoot began at Battleview Orchards in Freehold, New Jersey and we wrapped up the shoot in downtown Freehold. Check out more photos from this fun series!

Photography Slideshow

I will be launching a new version of this web site on January 1, 2013. It will be quite a change from what you see now.

In addition to the new site, all of my work is being looked at and organized into a reel. One part of that reel will feature my photographs. A little tease never hurt anyone, so I am posting the photography portion now. Here’s to a great new year!

Wedding Photography

SnapKnot Diamond MemberI love photographing weddings. Because wedding photography is a very intimate relationship between myself and the couple, I like to shoot a few weddings per month. That keeps me fresh and yields photographs that will make your heart sing. Destination weddings are also welcome.

Pricing information can always be found on the pricing page of my site.

Here a few of my favorite shots from weddings and engagements I have photographed.

Jesus Should Not Be Your Salesman.

People are free to believe in whatever religion they choose. However, there is a glaring problem I see within the photography & videography industry. People are using their religion to cast a net over like-minded fans of Jesus (Other religious figures included!). Please stop using Jesus as your salesperson. It’s phony bologna and I can smell it from ten miles away. Rely on your skills, not your religious affiliation. (I laughed at quite a few wedding photographers during my own search last year. The work was usually mediocre, but they took plenty of time quoting scriptures.)

I did a quick sketch of the man himself. Notice he is not selling anything.

Lindsey and Dave engagement session

Lindsey and Dave at Washington Rock in Green Brook, New JerseyOn November 7, 2010 Lindsay and I met with Lindsay and Dave to take engagement photos. We drove up to Washington Rock in Green Brook, New Jersey. The weather was a bit overcast and quite cold, but everyone was a champ about it.

There were several families around at the time, so we spent a good amount of time waiting for the perfect moment. (I will also mention that my Canon 430EX Speedlite was malfunctioning during this shoot. The bulb fixture slipped off its plastic track and was not allowing for power adjustments. Made for a difficult time. Anyway, I was able to fix this problem once I got home.)

After we finished up at Washington Rock, we hopped in the car and drove down to Westfield, New Jersey. The downtown area of Westfield is great. They’ve managed to keep that old-fashioned look Americana look intact all these years. They even have a movie theater that isn’t owned by a major corporation. I’d consider that a small miracle.
