Engagement Session with Sam and Steve at Paterson Great Falls and Art Factory Studios

I’ll be photographing Sam and Steve’s wedding at Art Factory Studios this October. Until then we just had to take some photos together. You know. Kick the tires and make sure we’re a well-oiled machine on the actual wedding day. Since they’re both big music fans I wanted to make sure we worked in that element for at least a couple shots. We hazed up the room where Alice In Chain’s filmed their “Voices” music video and I brought along my Stratocaster to use as a prop. If you’re looking for an industrial wedding venue then this is it, folks.

I used several MagMod products for the interior shots and, of course, that included gels. When I first started using gels years ago I got so much crap for it. But I will never stop using them. You hear me, world? GELS4LIFE.

Without further adieu I give you SAM AND STEVE’S UNCENSORED ENGAGEMENT SESSION!

Dancing The Day Away in Asbury Park with Andrea

Who is ready to bust out some sweet dance moves on the beach? You are? Are your sure about that? Can you bust out dance moves without fracturing your entire spinal column?

Andrea and I continued our shooting partnership by venturing down to sunny Asbury Park, NJ for some photos along the beach. The breakers near Convention Hall were particularly dry that day and made for a nice flat surface to photograph some sweet dance moves.

I shot in black and white to keep the focus on form and movement. Most of the shots were taken in the direct sun because the light was extraordinary. The thing I love about working with Andrea is she is a relentless perfectionist. We review shots on the spot to make sure everything is the way it should be. Take note, dancers! That’s the way it’s done to get results like this.

Special thanks to Lew Monty for running around like a maniac bringing me lenses and batteries as per usual. If you don’t have a Lew Monty…well, that’s too damn bad because he’s on Team TW!

Mia for Cleri Models

mia-berry-cleri-bts-00012-2016-06-16Just a few minutes outside of New York City is a world of industrial buildings that were formerly used to produce everything from fine silks to guns. That’s been my headquarters for the past month and it’s been so much fun finding interesting spots to shoot.

For portrait photography, I have different tastes. Sometimes I like it straight forward and without any distraction. But most of the time I like it to feel lived in. Shooting in a space that has been lived in, or worked in, lends itself to giving the person a bit more gravity in the scene. They absorb the essence of what the space is about. Hard work and determination are skills we can all relate to regardless of the line of work we’re in.

Mia has the energy and confidence you would expect from someone that models. It’s natural for her. I’ve also worked with models that are sort of shy in person, but convey a whole different feeling once we start shooting together. This was a great shoot from top to bottom and I’m happy to share some of my favorites from the session along with a couple behind the scenes shots courtesy of my assistant Lew Monty.

Special thanks for Wanida’s makeup and hair skills and Lew Monty’s assistance in making this shoot move nice and smooth.

Katie and Andre’s Point Pleasant Boardwalk Engagement Session

Memorial Day weekend. Point Pleasant, New Jersey. Traffic. Kohr Bros. ice cream. Mayhem. Fried pickles. Seagulls. Funnel cake. Fresh sea air. Rides. People fighting on the beach. People dancing on the beach. People in love on the beach.

Here’s to (somewhat) maintaining my balance on a moving carousel. Here’s to taking Uber for 4 totally walkable blocks. Here’s to Katie and Andre.

Cleri Models Lily In Downtown Somerville, NJ

The Beauty Bar in downtown Somerville, NJ was home base for hair and makeup for Lily’s shoot for Cleri Models. Five individual looks were accomplished through Kelly and Elise’s cosmetology wizardry and I’m always impressed by the results.

The weather on this particular day was all over the place. We went from overcast skies to bright warm sunlight. It appeared to be different days completely as we changed looks. Worked in our favor for this particular shoot!

One of my favorite locations is a narrow alley next to The Beauty Bar. It’s just wide enough for a person to stand comfortably with their arms bracing them between the walls.

Stylish Feminine Portraits With A Touch of Leather

Keep shooting. I tell myself this even though I can get overwhelmed. It’s being overwhelmed in the good way. The way every starving artist hopes to eventually be overwhelmed. Even though I have quite a few projects to wrap up, I found myself having that itch to photograph someone new this week. Luckily my makeup friend Wanida had a friend named Maria who kindly volunteered to take some pictures around New Brunswick. For the close up portrait work, we worked in my home studio and used just one main light and a canvas backdrop. That worked perfectly with her skin tone and black attire.

The abandoned lot in the neighborhood is a perfect backdrop right around sundown. It’s an odd combination of urban decay, workshops and what appears to be farmland. No lack of visual character in this city that’s for sure.

Fashion Shoot with Ferret Campos Designs

[et_pb_section][et_pb_row][et_pb_column type=”4_4″][et_pb_text admin_label=”Text” background_layout=”light” text_orientation=”left” use_border_color=”off” border_color=”#ffffff” border_style=”solid”]

Finally had the opportunity to photograph clothing designs for Ferret Campos Designs. Our nutty schedules aligned while I was in Manhattan doing work with Capezio. I am always trying to maximize my time in Manhattan. Our models for this shoot were Olya Smith and Josephine Webb. Both were extraordinarily easy to work with. They have modeling down, man! The South Street Seaport provided us with an interesting backdrop.

I mainly shot with the Sigma 50mm f/1.4 on my Canon 6D body. Threw a grid on a speedlite here and there and knocked it out of the park.
